1920s
Blanca Networks is Founded
In 1926, local businessman and politician William Tessler founded the Blanca Telephone Company—the first of its kind in the San Luis Valley, serving a total of four subscribers.
1940s
First in the west
In 1947, we were the first company west of the Mississippi to install an automatic switch, offering 4 toll links to Alamosa, Colorado. A few years later, we erected our first tower and storefront in Blanca, Colorado.
1960s
Generations of improvements
Under the leadership of Al and Virginia Wehe, we expanded our service network to Deer Valley Meadows, Forbes Park/Wagon Creek, and San Luis Valley Ranch, and moved our business front from Blanca to Alamosa to continue our expansion. In 1996, we began offering internet to the residents of Northern Costilla County and Eastern Alamosa County.
2000s
Innovation & Technology
Alan Wehe, son of Al, became general manager in the 2000s. Under his leadership, Blanca Telephone Company invested in a fiber-optic network to meet growing broadband demand, building fiber-to-the-home networks in Blanca, Ft. Garland, and Forbes Park, and installed three backup data routes to ensure our customers are always connected.
2020s
Celebrating 100 Years
Now in the fourth generation of family ownership, Blanca Networks enjoys its centennial celebration. As we mark 100 years of service to our communities, we're proud to stay on the leading edge of technology—constantly upgrading our local systems to improve the way our customers connect.
